Dangerous Trip

CRASH!

That was the sound that was heard when an unsuspecting and distracted Charlotte bumped straight into a guy carrying various metal objects. The object varied in size and shape as some looked like kitchen utensils while some looked as decoration items for one’s home. Charlotte raised her eyebrow at him as she noticed a bag full of coins on the ground next to her as well. She didn’t even get a second on reading the situation though as she was instantly pulled up by the overly dressed man who went to pick everything that he dropped. “Whoa” Charlotte looked curiously as she saw the man move something like wind to get all of his possessions. “Fast…” she blinked and the man was staring right into her eyes. “You…You should watch where you are going” He spat, pointing a fine finger with two golden rings on it at her where she simple nodded without uttering a word. She wasn’t exactly sure about what to say to that guy who had more or less gave her a look that said “What a brat”

“You know…I’m not a kid…I’m a Magic Council paladin,” she finally said, her eyes twitching in slight irritation. She wasn’t exactly sure what word turned the key on in him for in seconds, he was clasping her hands in his with an overjoyed expression that even made Charlotte drop some sweat. “Wh what?” she asked, tugging at her wrists to get them out of his grip. “You are the angel sent down to me by God!” he exclaimed, turning Charlotte In his arms, effectively making her spin on her heels before catching her as she started falling back. “What?” She asked again, this time holding up a fist.

She was sent bottom first to the ground though as the man backed off from her with a nervous laugh. “You see…I’m very concerned for my journey to a small settlement beyond the worth woodsea. I have heard so much about that spooky forest and I can’t help but think what if a ghost catches me and eats me?” he gave a much exaggerated horrified look as he passed to look down at the girl staring at him as if he has gone crazy. “I want you to escort me through the woods for a reasonable amount!”

Charlotte tilted her head to the side as she stared at the rather crazy man looking intently at her. “Huh? Why?” she asked stepping away from him. “I obviously need help!” he cried, pulling the poor raven haired council paladin back. “Uh…fine..you want to get through worth woodsea? Fine…just follow me,” she rolled her eyes at the guy before walking forward, her pace moderately less than usual so that the man could follow her.

Charlotte glared at the rolled up Reye who was shaking and rocking himself back and forth. “For heaven’s sake, man….what on earth are you scared of?” she asked for the fifth time that day after they entered the forest. Sure the forest was rather strange and scary but that didn’t mean he had to curl up like a ball and rck himself back and forth every single time he hears something moving.

“I swear! Someone’s following me! Someone’s watching me! I’m scared!” he threw himself on Charlotte, wailing as he cried on her shoulder. She sighed again before taking his hands and guiding him forward. “I’ll hold your hands, ok? If something happens, I’ll definitely protect you,” she said with a small smile as she turned back to look at the crying man.

Time passed way too quickly in Charlotte’s opinion as it was already night and the only light was the one that moon gave them out of her kindness. Rye’s jumpy nature seemed to have increased tenfold as he was fidgeting for the hundred and eighth time in the last half an hour. Charlotte gave him a ‘what on earth are you doing?’ look before her eyes traveled away from her and to the dark bushes surrounding her. Hey eyes locked with two shining eyes in the forest though and for the first time in that day, Charlotte was starting to believe Reye. Nonetheless, the amber eyed girl stood and went over to the shadowy area with Reye looking horrified at her back. She was quick, keeping a spell at the back of her head as she reached forward to move the leaves away, only to be pushed back down by a small white red eyed…rabbit.

A creaking noise coming from other side of the forest had Reye jumping up and down, running here and there as he yelled some things about world destruction and ghosts and death. She sighed once more as she walked over to where the noise coming from, finding a broken tree branch and nothing else anywhere. The night somehow ended with Reye pestering her endlessly about something following and staring at him which Charlotte finally managed to block out at about 12 am to fall asleep. The day after was followed with the same routine. Reye freaking out at nothing and Charlotte seeing nothing, making her scold him numerous times throughout the day.

“For the last time, Reye, there’s nothing weird in the forest, ok? “she said or rather tried to pacify the fidgeting man in front of him for the fifteenth time that night. Yes…they would arrive at their destination the next day if they woke up fast enough as they were so close. In fact, if Reye had not been insisting on camping somewhere, Charlotte would have dragged him to the town.

Charlotte was sipping at some warm water when Reye pulled Charlotte up without any notice. “Wh-what?” she asked as Reye hid behind her pointing to the opposite direction. “There…there is something there,” he stuttered out as Charlotte sighed, pried his hands off of her and walked to the direction he was pointing at only to see a rather angry looking crow fly out of the bushes, making Reye scream in surprise.

“I’m telling you, Reye…Stop being so damn scared already!” she said for the last time that night.

The very next day, Reye and Charlotte was standing close to their destination where Reye would be able to go by himself as Charlotte smiled and pated him on his back. “You alright?” She asked, earning a nod from him. “I’m really sorry or bothering you so much but you see…I’m affirmative that there is something following me,” he says giving her a ‘believe me’ expression where Charlotte sighed and nodded. “Just give me a call if you need my help.”
